What's on this Summer in the Algarve
Summer is the season of fun and sun in the Algarve. The beaches call you to spend lazy days enjoying the sunshine and clear waters, while the mellow evenings entice you to lingering meals beneath the stars, sipping a glass of wine or your favourite cocktail. There are festivals, concerts and parties for all tastes and ages to enjoy, as well as lots of activities and sports for the energetically inclined.
What's on at Quinta do Lago
Quinta do Lago has a full programme of fun planned for the summer, which you can see here, from gourmet in the sky to picnics on the ground, golf academies for junior visitors and open air cinema.
Dine in the Sky One of the highlights of the summer for sure is the Dine in the Sky event on 7th August. Not even slightly resembling inflight meals, Dine in the Sky involves dining at a table hoisted 50m up into the sky, high above the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the beautiful beaches and pristine greens of Quinta do Lago.
From a healthy breakfast option including yoga (this bit on the ground, not in the sky!), to pre-lunch Champagne at an altitude, cocktails at sunset or a gourmet aerial meal, provided by the exceptional chefs at Casa Velha Restaurant, this is a unique opportunity for a very different experience. The first of its kind in Portugal, places are limited so early booking is essential. Call us on +351 289 392236 or email fun@sandyblue.com for bookings and more information.
Glow Golf competition For some different fun, join the Glow Golf completion on 12th August at Quinta do Lago. Luminous golf balls and cool lighting make for fun golf, sign up and you could win!
Paul McGinley Junior Cup A more serious golf event will take place on 19th to 21st July at the Laranjal course, and junior golfers are invited to sign up and show off their talents during the 3 day event.
Movies in the Park The much loved Movies in the Park are back – and this time it’s a 3 D experience. Come along to the Driving Range and enjoy a great outdoors cinema evening on 26th July at 8:30pm. Free entrance.
Picnic in the Park Grab a blanket, grab some snacks, grab the kids and a bottle of your favourite wine and enjoy the fabulous Picnic in the park, every Friday from 6pm til late. There’s live music, entertainment for the kids, food stalls, drinks at the bar and a good time for all. Every Friday from 1st July to 26th August. Free entrance.
Love Brunch Every Sunday from 19th June to 28th August, join the fun at the Bovino Love Brunch – top DJS provide the sounds and atmosphere to go with the great food. Call us on +351 289 392236 or email fun@sandyblue.com for bookings. And there is live music several evenings per week at The Shack, at Casa Velha and Bovino Steakhouse.
What's on at Vale do Lobo
The Praça is where it all happens at Vale do Lobo. Day or night there is always plenty of activity, from watersports on the beach to entertainment in the evening. The central stage in the Praça hosts live bands every evening so you can dine to some great sounds at the restaurants in the Praça. Enjoy cocktails, sea views and people watching, while the children enjoy jumping on the bouncy castle and face painting. DJs keep the party going into the early hours at Montys.
Summer Festivals
Festival Med, 30th June to 3rd July kicks off the summer festival season with over 250 musicians from 55 countries performing in 8 stages in the historical centre of Loulé. One of the largest World Music festivals in Europe, this is a fabulous event filled with great music and a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
One of the biggest and best festivals is the Silves Medieval Festival, 12th to 21st August. The town, famous for its ancient castle, it’s the perfect setting and the town embraces the challenge, turning off its neon signs, hiding the cutlery and donning medieval garb to complete the illusion of a medieval town celebrating summer. Bands of wandering minstrels entertain the crowds, exotic belly dancers dance upon the cathedral steps, knights Templar parade through the streets on horseback. Traditional food is on offer – whole pigs roasted on the spit in the town square, ceramic roof tiles serving as plates and mugs of strong wine to wash it down. Great fun and not to be missed.
Olhão Seafood Festival, 9th to 14th August, is a celebration of the fabulous seafood bounty that the Algarve enjoys. Clams, oysters, mussels, prawns, fish of all sorts, are in plentiful supply, grilling smokily on the charcoal BBQ, to be enjoyed with local wine or cold beer. There’s a full line up of concerts too with some big national acts that will pack out the arena.
Summer Parties
All throughout the summer there are sunset sessions, brunch parties, full moon parties with live music, DJ sessions and lots of good humour at many great restaurants in Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago. Bjs Oceanside is a fabulous beachside restaurant that hosts lively and fun lunchtime live music sessions during the summer. Izzy’s is the place to be for the weekend sunset sessions – they are legendary! Advance bookings are essential for these venues – they get booked up weeks in advance. And keep your eyes peeled – visiting celebrities love theses venues too.
