Travelling to the Algarve with toddlers and babies
Family friendly Algarve is the perfect spot for a toddler escape to the beach. Pack up your young family and enjoy the sunshine, clean air, outdoors lifestyle, healthy food and lots of fun that the Algarve offers.
Travelling with young children and babies may seem daunting, but a little bit of planning is all it takes to give your family a fabulous experience that is not only fun, it’s good for your children too!
Freedom to Travel when you want
Among the many pluses of having young children is being able to take holidays outside of the school calendar. During May, June and September, the weather in the Algarve is perfect for young family holidays and the beaches are uncrowded. Children can run around at ease, or the little ones can try to get their feet under them for the first time, with soft sand to cushion the fall…There is plenty of sunshine delivering a daily dose of Vitamin D, without being too hot. And days at the beach coincide perfectly with baby’s routine – beach fun in the morning and afternoon, nap time during the hottest part of the day. A perfect match!
Toddler safe villas and apartments
Little children do love to explore and discover all around them. To ensure their safety and your peace of mind, many SandyBlue villas have private pools with pool fences, ensuring that junior guests can’t reach the pool on their own. To add comfort to safety, look for a villa with pool heating too. A private villa with a spacious garden, such as Villa Solaris, is ideal for family holidays. Villa Aurora has a great pool and a swing set too, for the children. Baby equipment such as cots, high chairs, baby baths etc can all be provided at your apartment or villa upon request. And SandyBlue villas generally have lots of free extras to make your holiday better, such as free wi-fi, cable TV, DVD, air conditioning, washing machines (children do create laundry!) and barbeques so you can enjoy lazy meals by the pool when your babies have surrendered to sleep.
Great Deals
Travelling outside of high season, in May, June or September for example, means you can often find excellent off peak deals. SandyBlue regularly has super offers on villas and apartments in Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago – both superb resorts for family holidays. Airlines, especially low cost carriers, have very competitive rates on off peak travel. And of course the flight from most of Europe to Faro airport is under 3 hours – not too long to cope with a lively toddler in an enclosed space.
Babies welcome here
Children are very welcome in Portugal. Not only do most restaurants have children’s menus and highchairs available, children are treated as special guests. Families travelling with babies or toddlers will find a great choice of restaurants where they don’t have to abdicate good food to have a family meal. Supermarkets in the Algarve carry a range of international goods and shops such as Apolonia in Almancil carry many baby care and food brands that you will already be familiar with. There are some great family days out in the Algarve. The water parks have special areas for young children with very shallow pools and small slides and rides, and Zoomarine is a fabulous day out, no matter what age you are.
