Summer 2020: Why the Algarve remains a safe place to holiday
Following the recent announcement of airbridges between the UK and other countries, it was surprising and disappointing to see Portugal was excluded from the list. The country as a whole feel this decision does not do justice to the tireless work to keep Portugal safe throughout the pandemic.
The statistics (which we’ll get to) really do speak for themselves – Portugal, and of course the Algarve, remain safe places to holiday for the summer of 2020. We have been writing about the Covid-19 developments frequently, like many others have done. Before we delve into the latest blog, do bookmark the articles below for further reading on this subject...
Portugal has proven it's a safe place to be
Since mid-June, there has been a growing demand for villa holidays, particularly in the Algarve. Looking at British tourists, the Algarve has always been one of the top holiday destinations, especially with such a big British community also living here.
Let’s look at those statistics we mentioned...as of July 10th 2020, the numbers really do show that the original transmission wave has passed its peak. According to this fantastic article in The Telegraph, only 3.9% of confirmed cases are in hospital and the fatality rate has remained lower than many other European countries.
Even at the beginning of this crisis, Portugal acted fast and has been a shining example to other countries. When it comes to a global pandemic, Portugal has demonstrated testing, tracing and transparency throughout. This decision might deter people from choosing Portugal as their 2020 destination, but we do think this will be overturned very soon and the country is still welcoming people regardless.
The Algarve has reopened safely
The Algarve is more magical than ever! Having listened closely to scientific advice, the region has been able to lift many of the lockdown restrictions, while still maintaining measures of social distancing to keep visitors at ease.
The community is taking these measures seriously, so we guarantee there will never be a moment of discomfort throughout the summer of 2020. Looking at UK tourists, the main issue for them is having to self-quarantine on their return from Portugal, which we of course sympathise with. Upon arrival here, there will be no need to isolate and you can start enjoying what the Algarve has to offer from the get go.
The quieter than normal summer season actually has its advantages however, especially when it comes to safety. The many sandy beaches of the Algarve are open to enjoy and there will be no shortage of room for you to relax. Restaurants and bars, still offering the best customer service in Portugal, will also have more availability for you. We just have to share this beachside video we took recently, showing the amazing vibes of the Algarve happening right now!
SandyBlue are putting safety first
Like many companies in the Algarve, SandyBlue are putting guest safety first. All of our villas are ‘Clean & Safe’ certified and the whole team is trained in line with the latest government protocols. We are also helping guests by investing in in-villa services, should they want to spend more time at the villa. These include beauty appointments, massages, shopping deliveries and on-site chefs! While we encourage everyone to fully explore the Algarve, we do see the importance of these extra services.
During these unprecedented times, we are dealing with all enquiries around the clock. If you have an enquiry about a booking or availability, we’d be happy to help!
