SandyBlue in the news – Portugal is safe and open!
It is safe to say that the UK government's decision to keep Portugal off the travel ‘green list’ on July 24th delivered a mighty blow to the country. It is well documented just how well the Portuguese government dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic, and we will continue to praise their efforts.
The SandyBlue team can say with real conviction that we disagree with the decision. We wanted to make our voices heard, alongside the many other British residents based in the Algarve. We’re happy that our concerns are being heard and want to share some recent articles that highlight our stance on this ongoing discussion.
BBC News
Following the initial announcement from the UK government, the reaction from Portugal was swift. The statistics do not lie and, as our founder Joe points out in a BBC report, the Algarve had 806 cases as of July 24th. Joe also goes on to highlight just how major the impact of this decision will be on tourism, as many people fear the prospect of job losses. We have been contributing monthly articles to the Portugal Resident, with a new article coming soon with a more in-depth discussion on the issue at hand. You can read the published articles below...
Joe participated in a recent meeting with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, where other British residents of the Algarve came together to discuss their disapproval of the UK’s decision. The need for ambassadors to convince UK tourists that the Algarve is a safe travel option is high, and Joe is definitely going to be a big voice in this discussion.
President Marcelo certainly found the conversation to be honest and frank, but admires these ambassadors for their love of the country. He assured readers that Portugal definitely won’t give up in the fight to be added to the UK’s travel corridor list.
