October Half-Term in the Algarve - your Autumn itinerary
If you're looking for a fun-filled October half-term in the Algarve, SandyBlue has got you covered! At any time of the year, we believe there is something for everybody.
Not only can you enjoy a fabulous villa or apartment in the Golden Triangle, but there is so much to see and do. We thought we would give you some hints and information on how to enjoy the Algarve this Autumn.
Perfect in-villa features
While we will get to all the wonderful activities you can enjoy, there is much fun to be had at your villa too! Many of our properties offer pool heating, which is definitely a welcome treat in the cooler months. You can also use the BBQ to enjoy some delicious food or prepare some for a picnic at the beach.
Other features include cinema rooms, games rooms, indoor gym equipment and so much more! Days spent at the villa will definitely keep the whole family entertained.
Algarve weather in October
Of course, the Algarve is known for how much sunshine it sees per year. October still offers a pleasant climate - the average daily maximum is 24 C and the average daily minimum is 18 C. So, we do advise a light jacket or long sleeves for the evenings.
So, you can still enjoy a great day out. In fact, it will likely make a day of exploration easier for a family with smaller children. The beaches and popular hot spots will be quieter too, so planning your itinerary will allow for plenty of ideas. Speaking of ideas...
October half-term activities
There is so much to see and do in the Autumn, especially if you're on a half-term getaway with the whole family. Here are a few of our team's top choices...
Walking: Due to the cooler weather, walking won't be quite as tiring as it is in hotter weather. So, a long stroll around the Ria Formosa is a must. If you enjoy a run, the Ria Formosa or Ludo trails are a great running experience. We recommend a cliff walk at Praia da Marinha or the fresh mountain air of Monchique.
DirtEbikers: Our CTO, Matt, can't get enough of this adventurous activity. "I love a bit of excitement and the DirtEbikers offer a great adventure-based experience. A trail ride with these guys is one of the best ways of exploring the hidden parts of the Algarve which are rich in history and culture. It’s a great day out for experienced riders and novices alike. The electric bikes are two-wheel drive, very accessible and fun to ride."
Visit the islands: Perhaps the most popular pastime among the team is a day on one of the islands, particularly Armona, Culatra or Farol. At this time of year, you will truly get to appreciate the hidden gems of the Algarve.
Golf: Once again, the cooler weather will make a day of golf much more pleasant. For all things golf, be sure to visit our ultimate guide to golf in the Algarve. For a more family-focused day of competition, the Family Golf Park in Vilamoura is a huge hit with the children and the adults.
Food, glorious food: It's not a trip to the Algarve without sampling the local delights! As it will be a little quieter, securing a reservation will be a piece of cake (maybe literally!). A favourite of our team is Piri Piri D'Almancil. They have lots of choices with daily specials and great options for kids too. If chicken is your favourite, Marufo is another top tip. If you can, check out Taberna - each dish is a celebration of regional flavors and traditional recipes, carefully prepared with love and expertise by the chef team.
Spa: Need to unwind? The many spas in the Algarve offer glorious treatments, including a well-earned massage to de-stress. Vale do Lobo Royal Spa is an ultra-modern health and wellness facility, offering a wide range of treatments including herbal therapies, reflexology, shiatsu and the latest vitamin-enriched treatments and cosmetic medicine. The Campus offers an array of spa treatments including sports massages and deep tissue massages.
Bird-watching: The Algarve is full of beautiful flora and fauna. In particular, 395 bird species have been recorded in the region. In Sagres, the annual bird-watching event is one of the biggest nature-based events.
Halloween: With Halloween falling within the half-term this year, there is plenty of spooky fun to be had. Explore all Halloween activities on our blog!
