Late summer in the Algarve – it's not too late to holiday in 2020!
As lockdown slowly begins to ease, the Algarve has emerged as one of the safest and most popular destinations for late summer getaways. It has been a long journey for everyone and the idea of a holiday in 2020 seems like a pipe dream. However, it can still happen and it’s definitely not too late to experience the Algarve in the late summer months.
In fact, according to the Portugal Resident, the Algarve has been voted the best holiday destination this summer by travel experts. One of the main reasons for this honour is down to the response by the local government to combat the pandemic. So, if you’re still in two minds, here’s why a holiday in the Algarve is still possible.
Portugal is open
From June 4th, Portugal reopened its doors to overseas visitors once more. The response has been widely praised, with the government managing to swiftly enforce lockdown which has now allowed for easing to take place.
Visitors can already enjoy the bars and restaurants, while beach season officially began on the 6th of June! Of course, safety is still the number one priority and full measures are in place to ensure everyone is protected. It has also been announced that all visitors arriving in Portugal will not have to quarantine – instead, health advice and procedures will be outlined in accordance to the easing of lockdown.
Late summer highlights from the Algarve
The Algarve is famous for its glorious, all-year-round climate. So, booking in August will guarantee you get some peak Algarve sunshine! In September, you might not see temperatures soar as high as July or August, you can still expect temperatures to hover around the high 20’s to lower 30’s. As the evenings are cooler, you can make the most of outdoor dining.
You might also find that missing the busy July to early August period means that there will be less crowds to contend with. What does that mean for you? You’ll enjoy more of the sandy beaches, experience a less busy scenic drive or cycle and easily grab a table at the best restaurants around.
Basically, you can still enjoy all of the activities available for the peak summer months and the Algarve calendar always has something exciting happening.
