Off the beaten track
There are many well-known activities throughout the Algarve, but there are a few hidden gems to be discovered as you explore the Algarve and its countryside.
Fóia: The beautiful inland town of Monchique might not be the first port of call for those looking for sun, sand and sea. However, this location is paradise and is pure Algarve through and through. Not only are there fantastic hiking trails, there is also Fóia, the highest mountain in the Algarve. The views are stunning here and there are often off-road jeep tours to enjoy the mountain in all its glory.
Vigario Falls: Located just north of Albufeira, you will find a beautiful part of the countryside in the village Alte. Not far from here is the spectacular Vigario Falls, a wonderful waterfall that also has a pond for swimming. Many off-road tours make sure they stop here, so we think you should too!
Limite Zero Zipline: Have you ever wanted to time travel? The Limite Zero Zipline can be found at the Spanish-Portuguese border, which would make for a great outing if you’re really into adventure. The 720 metre zipline not only provides stunning views as you glide over Guadiana River, but as you cross the border from the Spanish starting point you will immediately jump forward an hour. Marty McFly, eat your heart out!
